WASHINGTON—Covington advised Mars, Incorporated on food regulatory matters in connection with its £534 million ($662 million) acquisition of Hotel Chocolat, a UK chocolate manufacturer and retailer.
Mars is one of the world’s largest family-owned food companies and a leading manufacturer of chocolate, chewing gum, mints, confections, and pet care products, including brands like M&Ms, Snickers, Dolmio, Extra, Kind, and Pedigree that are enjoyed in more than 180 countries.
Hotel Chocolat is a premium British chocolate maker with a distinctive direct-to-consumer brand. The business was founded in 1993 by Angus Thirlwell and Peter Harris, and has traded under the Hotel Chocolat brand since 2003.
