WASHINGTON—Covington is representing Alion Science and Technology Corporation in a recently announced deal to sell its Naval Systems Business Unit to Serco Inc. for $225 million. The sale, subject to certain regulatory approvals, is expected to close in the second half of 2019.
Headquartered in McLean, VA, Alion delivers advanced engineering, IT and, operational solutions to strengthen national security and drive business results. Serco is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Serco Group, plc, and is a leading provider of shipboard, shore and systems installation and upgrade services to the U.S. Navy.
The Covington team representing Alion is led by partner Scott Freling, who advised on government contracts along with special counsel Alex Hastings and associate Brooke Stanley. CFIUS and national security issues are being handled by partner David Fagan, of counsel, Heather Finstuen, and associate Charles Buker. Partner Kim Strosnider and associate Lisa Ann Johnson are handling trade control issues. A London-based team that includes partner Simon Amies and special counsel Alex Clarke are advising on UK law matters.
