Covington Secures $21 Million Jury Trial Win for Elbit Systems in Patent Case

SILICON VALLEY—Covington secured a significant patent infringement victory on behalf of Elbit Systems Ltd. over its groundbreaking patent relating to high-speed satellite communications. 
A jury in the Unites States District Court for the Eastern District of Texas awarded Elbit Systems $21,075,000 in damages, exclusive of pre-judgment interest and post-verdict royalties, after finding the patent to be valid and infringed upon by Hughes Network Systems LLC.

Elbit Systems is an international high technology company engaged in a wide range of defense, homeland security, and commercial programs throughout the world. The patent, U.S. Patent No. 6,240,073, is owned by Elbit Systems subsidiary, Elbit Systems Land &C4I Ltd and exclusively licensed to Elbit Systems of America, LLC, both of whom were plaintiffs in the lawsuit.

Working with co-counsel at Ward, Smith & Hill, the Covington team was led by Kurt Calia and Ranganath Sudarshan and included Wallace Lee, Patrick Flynn, Raj Paul, Grant Johnson, Udit Sood, and Yale Fu.
