WASHINGTON– Covington is advising Advent as regulatory counsel in its recently announced agreement to acquire the Aerospace and Defense business of global photonics company Coherent Corp. (NYSE: COHR) for $400 million.

Coherent’s Aerospace and Defense designs and manufactures optical and laser systems for defense applications. The transaction is expected to close in the third quarter of 2025, subject to customary closing conditions.

Advent is a leading global private equity investor headquartered in New York. Advent has a strong track record of investing in the national security sector, with investments that have included Cobham, Ultra Electronics, and Maxar Technologies.

The Covington team is advising Advent on national security and government contracts matters in the transaction. The team is led by David Fagan, Heather Finstuen, and Scott Freling. Other team members include Emma Merrill-Grubb, Jacob Crump, and Keeghan Sweeney.
