Regulations May Complicate New Jersey’s Newly Passed Privacy Law

Libbie Canter’s commentary was included in a Global Data Review article covering the passage of a comprehensive New Jersey data privacy bill that applies to entities that control or process at least 100,000 New Jersey-based consumers’ personal data in a calendar year.

Libbie noted that while the regulations are welcomed, they could unleash substantive additional obligations. “There’s the potential for that process to create idiosyncrasies or differences that increase the [corporate] burden,” she said.
