Taking Stock of the Shrinking, But Still Massive, Opioid Docket

Paul Schmidt was quoted by AmLaw Litigation Daily in a roundup of the current state of play in the mass lawsuits facing opioid makers, distributors, and pharmacies. The article referenced Paul's prior AmLaw commentary on how Covington managed its opioid docket for its client, McKesson. As he stated, "in any case you're always looking ahead to a potential trial and thinking about how you can defend your client."

Paul continues, stating, "In these cases, it’s literally arguably one of the biggest, if not the biggest societal issue, the opioid crisis, where every judge and every jury we’re in front of comes into the case with pretty strong opinions on it. On the client-side, I think McKesson has shown that you’ve got to have the courage to try cases to get good outcomes—and when you do, you can get good outcomes."
