Ex-Senate Finance Tax Counsel Joins Covington & Burling

Timothy Hester and Ed McClellan are quoted in a Law360 article regarding McClellan’s recent arrival to the firm’s Tax and Public Policy and Government Affairs practices. According to Hester, “Given the inevitability of new tax legislation that will have significant effects across the economy, Ed is a highly valuable resource in an area of great importance for our clients.” He adds, “Ed brings extensive experience advising clients on tax legislation and adds critical new capabilities to our already strong teams in tax law and government affairs.”

According to McClellan, who worked on the 2001 Bush tax cuts while serving as counsel for the Senate Finance Committee from 1999-2005, “There are not that many of us who have experience moving a tax bill through the reconciliation process.” He says, “There’s a lot of interest in [border-adjusted taxing] because it is a very new approach for this country, it is a new direction for tax policy that’s going to have implications for companies located both inside the U.S. and outside the country.” He adds, “It’s unique on the world stage and it’s going to draw a lot of interest.”
