    Patrick O'Grady is an associate in the firm's international arbitration and disputes practice, based in Dubai. Patrick has advised clients from various industries and jurisdictions and focuses on disputes arising in the energy, infrastructure, hotel and construction sectors in the Middle East.

    Patrick has experience acting for sovereign states in investment treaty arbitration under the UNCITRAL, SCC and ICSID rules as well as experience in international commercial proceedings under the LCIA, DIAC, SIAC, LMAA and ICC rules. He also has experience in litigation proceedings in the UAE, England and the British Virgin Islands. Patrick trained with a magic circle firm in London and has been based in the UAE since 2018.

    • Acted for an international oil and gas company in relation to an offshore pipeline in the Caspian Sea.
    • Advising an international bank in relation to parallel Dubai court proceedings relating to payment of outstanding debts and breaches of guarantees.
    • Acting for the UAE subsidiary of a Japanese trading company in relation to a complex transfer pricing dispute, involving DIAC arbitration proceedings and a criminal investigation in Oman.

    • Acted for a sovereign state in UNCITRAL proceedings relating to a USD 128 million claim by a Canadian mining company, relating to an alleged expropriation of its rights to one of the world’s largest rare earth elements mines.
    • Advised a sovereign state in UNCITRAL proceedings in relation to a USD 200 million claim relating to an alleged expropriation regarding an investment in the telecommunications sector.
    • Advised a leading international energy company in proceedings before the Oman Court of Appeal (Administrative Division) against the Oman Capital Markets Authority.
    • Acting for the O&M contractor of a major Saudi power and water plant in relation to potential claims against the Plant Owner.
    • Advising a tribal community in relation to investment treaty and human rights claims against a sovereign state in the Middle East.
    • Advised one of the largest international oil and gas companies on the merits of a liquidated damages claim in relation to the delivery of goods to an oilfield in Iraq.
    • Acted for a contractor in LMAA proceedings on claims arising from the construction of an oil and gas semi-submersible platform.
