Sonia Campbell is a partner in the global Insurance Practice Group, based in Covington’s London office. On insurance coverage matters, Sonia acts exclusively for policyholders against insurers.
She specialises in acting for policyholders on insurance coverage issues relating to a variety of policies, including bankers' blanket bond (BBB), commercial general liability (CGL), commercial crime/fidelity, cyber, D&O/E&O, employment practices, political risk, professional indemnity (PI), property damage and business interruption (PDBI), trade credit and W&I policies. She also advises on related global insurance programme and risk management issues.
Sonia is experienced in dealing with disputes in the English courts (all levels), in arbitration (LCIA, ICC, and ad hoc arbitrations, with a particular specialism in Bermuda Form insurance coverage disputes) and by way of ADR.
Sonia and her team focus on acting for policyholders in industries including Construction, Consumer Brands, Energy, Entertainment, Hospitality & Retail, Financial Institutions, Life Sciences, Manufacturing and Technology. In addition, Sonia has extensive experience of the reinsurance market and can act in disputes between cedants and their reinsurers.
The team is heavily involved in significant emerging and developing risks/coverage issues, including acting for clients involved in PFAS / “forever chemicals” litigation and associated insurance coverage issues. Whilst Sonia represents FTSE 100/global organisations, she also provides coverage advice for board members/senior executives involved in public/statutory Inquiries (Post Office Horizon IT Inquiry, UK Covid-19 Inquiry) and those subject to civil/criminal regulatory investigations and proceedings.
The team’s matters tend to be cross-border, which means Sonia regularly works with lawyers in other jurisdictions, including in a monitoring counsel role.
