NEW YORK/WASHINGTON—The Hollywood Reporter named Mike Hill, Andrew Nightingale, John Playforth, and Peter Zern to its Sports Power Lawyers list for 2025. This year’s 33 honorees were selected based on client portfolios, groundbreaking cases, scope of deals, and reputation among their colleagues.
Mike is based in Covington’s New York office and advises sports leagues, conferences, and teams, as well as media and technology companies, in connection with a broad array of commercial and corporate transactions. He has extensive experience with complex television and video licensing and distribution agreements across broadcast, cable and streaming, with a particular focus on sports media rights agreements.
Based in Covington’s New York office, Andrew represents clients in the sports industry, including leagues, teams and owners, in a wide variety of corporate matters, including team ownership transfers, private equity investments and related transactions, joint ventures and league governance.
John is based in Covington’s Washington office and specializes in defending sports leagues, financial institutions, and other corporations in high-stakes antitrust litigations, and he has extensive experience representing defendants in antitrust class actions and complex, multi-district litigations.
Based in Covington’s Washington office, Peter is co-chair of Covington’s Sports practice and one of the country’s preeminent sports lawyers, advising a wide range of clients on sports-related transactions, including some of the largest and most innovative transactions in the industry. He has done work for all of the major U.S. leagues, numerous individual teams and owners, as well as other governing bodies, lenders, investors, sponsors, and strategic partners.
