Covington Advises on Funding of a Solar Power Project in South Africa

JOHANNESBURG—Covington jointly advised Kathu Solar Park and Nedbank Limited on the funding for the development and operation of the Auxiliary PV Plant with an aggregate value of R235 million.

Kathu Solar Park is a 100 MW greenfield Concentrated Solar Power (CSP) project with parabolic trough technology and 4.5 hours of thermal energy storage capacity located in the town of Kathu, South Africa. The funds will be used to supplement the energy requirements of the auxiliary loads necessary for the CSP Plant to generate power.

The Covington team was led by Agnieszka Klich and included Yashveer Ram, Shalom Mwale and Bongiwe Sindane.
