October 26, 2021
WASHINGTON—Bloomberg Law has named Covington to its inaugural Diversity, Equity & Inclusion (DEI) Framework. Covington is one of only 28 U.S.-based firms recognized for their level of disclosure of diversity-related metrics and distinguished performance against six core pillars: demographics, leadership and talent pipeline, recruitment and retention, business innovation and strategy, marketing, and diversity & inclusion in the community.
“We are proud to be named to Bloomberg’s inaugural DEI Framework and remain committed to improving diversity, equity, and inclusion at Covington and across the legal industry,” said Doug Gibson, Covington’s chair. ”We have made tremendous progress in building a strong group of women and ethnically diverse lawyers, including at senior levels, and recognize that diversity makes our law firm stronger and is fundamental to whom we are as a firm and to our long-term success.”
Bloomberg Law’s DEI Framework was developed in collaboration with Bloomberg’s Gender-Equality Index team, as well as diversity leads at corporations and U.S.-based law firms. Performance was assessed across more than 85 metrics, each associated with one of the framework’s six core pillars.
Covington fosters a workplace that promotes inclusion and belonging and values the differences among its lawyers and staff. The firm views diversity as an asset and a source of strength and continues to exceed industry averages for gender, race/ethnicity, and sexual orientation, enabling the firm to meet clients’ needs with teams of talented diverse attorneys across practice areas. Covington has also long focused on increasing diversity within the legal profession and partners with its clients and the greater community to improve diversity and inclusion in the profession, while recognizing that it must do more to drive change and create an inclusive workplace.
