WASHINGTON—Global Banking Regulation Review has named Covington partner Michael Nonaka to its “45 Under 45,” a list of the leading, next-generation banking regulation specialists.
Mr. Nonaka is co-chair of the Financial Services Group and advises banks, financial services providers, and non-bank companies on a broad range of compliance, enforcement, transactional, and legislative matters. He has worked extensively with federal and state banking agencies and with other federal agencies authorized to regulate financial services. Mr. Nonaka also plays an active role in the firm’s Fintech Initiative and frequently works with clients on innovative technologies such as blockchain, bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies, big data, cloud computing, same day payments, and online lending.
In his profile, Mr. Nonaka championed the importance of technology expertise in advising financial services clients today. “Technology has become such an important part of financial services and its regulatory framework. Regulatory lawyers need to use and understand innovative financial products and services so that their advice is practical and based on the underlying technology.”
In selecting this year’s list, Global Business Regulation Review identified ”a balanced geographic spread, with practitioners not just from the English-speaking, common law jurisdictions, but from most of the major banking markets around the world.”
