PALO ALTO—Daily Journal has named Kurt Calia to its 2020 Top Trade Secrets Lawyers, a recognition of the leading California lawyers who specialize in trade secrets law.
Mr. Calia is a partner in Covington’s Palo Alto office and has been a trial lawyer at the firm for more than 25 years, where he focuses on complex civil litigation, with a particular emphasis on intellectual property and patent disputes for a wide range of firm clients. He has tried cases on a broad array of technologies, ranging from satellite communications equipment, genetically modified crops, software, pharmaceutical products, light-emitting diodes, and everything in between.
Daily Journal highlights Mr. Calia’s successful representation, with others at Covington, of GE Aviation in a US Court of Federal Claims suit that demanded access to GE trade secrets related to engines used in Naval warships. “GE had a huge amount of proprietary technical information developed over decades and asserted that no one should get that information for free,” he commented to the Daily Journal.
