AmLaw Litigator of the Week Shout Out: Covington Represents the Canadian Hockey League in Defeating Proposed Antitrust Class Action

A Covington team received a shout-out in AmLaw Litigation Daily for representing the Canadian Hockey League in defeating a proposed antitrust class action claiming the CHL, along with the National Hockey League, colluded to restrain the market for players between the ages of 16 to 20 in North America. After a federal judge in New York knocked out a similar suit in November, U.S. District Judge Tana Lin in Seattle dismissed claims against the CHL, finding them barred under the Foreign Trade Antitrust Improvements Act. The judge dismissed the remaining claims against the CHL under the doctrine of international comity.

The Covington team representing the CHL, its three member leagues, and 60 clubs was led by Derek Ludwin, Lauren Willard Zehmer, and Ben Block, and included Jackie Fitch, and Brigid Larkin.
