We hope you will join us for a discussion of the U.S. Department of Justice’s increasing focus on customs and tariff evasion, and how its growing use of the False Claims Act (FCA) to pursue cases alleging companies have fraudulently underpaid duties impacts life sciences companies. Recent statements from senior DOJ officials, together with several high profile settlements, underscore the heightened scrutiny facing importers.
In this webinar, Covington lawyers will discuss how the government is applying the FCA to customs related conduct and highlight the areas that most frequently give rise to enforcement risk, including country of origin determinations, tariff classification, import valuation, and antidumping and countervailing duty exposure. The speakers will draw on learnings from recent enforcement actions and ongoing investigations to illustrate how these issues arise in practice and what tends to trigger government scrutiny.
The program will also address practical considerations for life sciences companies seeking to manage risk, including compliance program design, internal investigations, voluntary disclosures, and responding to whistleblower driven allegations.
