Practising Law Institute (PLI) Conference on Coping with U.S. Export Controls and Sanctions

On December 11 and 12, 2025, Covington partner Peter Flanagan will again serve as co-chair of the annual Practising Law Institute (PLI) Conference in Washington on “Coping with U.S. Export Controls and Sanctions.” This program combines a comprehensive update on the full range of U.S. export control and economic sanctions developments with practical insights on developing and managing compliance programs. The conference features senior policymakers from the key U.S. government trade control agencies as well as industry representatives and other experienced practitioners. Among other topics, this year’s conference will cover how the second Trump Administration has altered the export controls and sanctions landscape, including the sustained emphasis and expansion of controls on China and the shifts in sanctions policy with regard to Russia, Iran, Venezuela and Syria.

Our colleague Peter Lichtenbaum will participate in a panel on “Tightening Controls on China: Developments and Prospects” on December 11, and our colleague Josh Williams will co-lead a one-hour webcast briefing on the “Basics of Export Controls” prior to the conference (November 19 at 1 p.m. EST).
