Rani Gupta is a litigator who represents corporate policyholders in high-stakes insurance coverage disputes. She has been recognized by Chambers, Law360, Forbes, Business Insurance, and the Daily Journal for her success recovering hundreds of millions of dollars for her policyholder clients.
Rani’s successful representations include obtaining an arbitration award in favor of an energy company pursuing insurance coverage for product liability claims; representing a managed care provider in a $100 million insurance recovery action that resolved favorably after key rulings in the insured’s favor; and successfully obtaining coverage for sexual misconduct claims in a contested arbitration.
Rani has obtained coverage for a wide range of losses, including product liability, class action, antitrust, environmental, asbestos, construction, and abuse and misconduct claims. She pursues coverage under a wide variety of insurance policies, including general liability, property and business interruption, errors and omissions, cyber, political risk, and directors and officers policies.
Rani litigates and arbitrates in all venues, including state and federal courts, domestic arbitrations, and London-seated arbitrations concerning Bermuda Form policies. She also has argued multiple insurance coverage appeals, including before the California Supreme Court.
A former journalist, Rani also maintains an active pro bono practice focused on assisting non-profit newsrooms obtain public records and conducting pre-publication review. She was awarded the firm’s Charles F.C. Ruff Pro Bono Lawyer of the Year award for her pro bono efforts.
