NEW YORK—Covington International Arbitration partner and Management Committee member David Pinsky was again named a Notable Leader in Accounting, Consulting and Law 2026 by Crain's New York Business. The list recognizes New York’s senior leaders in law, as well as in accounting and consulting, who have demonstrated significant impact in their profession and in their communities. Dave has been named to the Crain’s list in two of the past three years, having previously received the recognition in 2024.
Crain’s recognized Dave’s service on Covington’s Management Committee, which oversees the strategy, financials, and operations of the firm, as well as his numerous wins for Ukrainian clients in disputes arising from Russia's invasion. In March 2026, he was lead counsel for the Ukrainian Chess Federation in a precedent-setting case before the Court of Arbitration for Sport, which ordered the Chess Federation of Russia to cease all chess activities in Ukraine’s occupied regions or face a three-year suspension from international chess. Dave also leads global enforcement efforts relating to a $5-billion arbitration award he and Covington team won in 2023 for Ukraine’s state-owned oil and gas company Naftogaz, arising from Russia’s unlawful expropriation of Naftogaz’s assets in Crimea. To date, Dave and his team have helped Naftogaz identify and freeze hundreds of millions of dollars in Russian assets globally.
Outside the firm, Dave is a lecturer at Columbia Law School, where he teaches a course on investment arbitration, and he is a board member of the Edith and Carl Marks Jewish Community House of Bensonhurst, which has led New York’s efforts to resettle and support Ukrainian refugees since Russia’s full-scale invasion in 2022.
