San Francisco—The Recorder has named Covington partner Lindsey Tonsager a finalist for its Innovation in Tech/AI award as part of the 2026 California Legal Awards. The California Legal Awards, presented by The Recorder, a premier California legal publication and part of ALM Media, celebrate the lawyers and law firms driving the state's dynamic legal landscape. Winners will be announced at the California Legal Awards ceremony in June 2026.
Lindsey is a recognized leader in representing companies before federal and state regulators and chairs Covington's global Data Privacy and Cybersecurity practice. She is renowned for advising on artificial intelligence regulation, minor protection, and state comprehensive privacy laws. She advises clients in their strategic and proactive engagement with the Federal Trade Commission, the U.S. Congress, the California Privacy Protection Agency, and State Attorneys General on proposed changes to data protection laws, and regularly represents clients in responding to investigations and enforcement actions involving their privacy and information security practices.
Lindsey's practice focuses on helping clients launch new products and services that implicate the laws governing the use of artificial intelligence, data processing for robotics, autonomous vehicles, and other connected devices, biometrics, online advertising, the collection of personal information from children, teens, and students online, and new technologies. She also assesses privacy and data security risks in complex corporate transactions where personal data is a critical asset.
Lindsey has been named one of the Daily Journal's Top Artificial Intelligence Lawyers and was recognized by The Recorder as a Woman Leader in Tech Law for two consecutive years (2023 and 2024).
