WASHINGTON—The American Lawyer has named Mark Plotkin, senior partner and co-chair of Covington’s CFIUS practice, its 2025 national “Best Mentor – Law Firm” honoree, recognizing his exceptional record of developing legal talent and supporting the next generation of leaders across the profession.
With a career spanning nearly four decades, Mark has been a defining force behind Covington’s culture of mentorship—guiding lawyers through the profession’s most complex challenges and helping them build meaningful and lasting careers. His influence extends across the Washington office, throughout the firm, and well beyond Covington.
A long-standing adjunct professor of law at Georgetown University, Mark has helped set a new standard for mentorship in Big Law, fostering a collaborative and inclusive environment that has shaped multiple generations of legal practitioners. His mentees include corporate general counsel, law professors, judges, public officials, law firm leaders, and nonprofit executives — many of whom began their careers as Covington associates or as students in his classroom.
“Mark embodies the very best of Covington and this recognition reflects what we have seen for years,” said Doug Gibson, Chair of Covington’s Management Committee. “His dedication to developing lawyers—at every stage of their careers—is exceptional, and his influence reaches far beyond our firm. This national recognition is a fitting tribute to the impact he has had on so many.”
