WASHINGTON—For the eleventh consecutive year, Global Competition Review named Covington’s Global Competition Team as part of its Global Elite 2025, a list of the top 25 firms practicing competition law internationally. Covington was also singled out in several jurisdictions, including in the "Outstanding" category in Washington, in the "Highly Recommended" category for Belgium and California, and "Recommended" category for Brussels and the United Kingdom.
Noting that much of the firm's caseload is confidential, the research cited a number of key matters across the firm's offices, including:
- steering Glencore’s acquisition of a 77% stake in Teck Resources’ steelmaking coal business, which secured unconditional clearances in the US, EU and China;
- representing PSA International on its joint venture with Terminal Investment, which won unconditional clearance in Phase II from Canada’s Competition Bureau;
- advising DPG Media in the Belgian Competition Authority’s investigation into several companies over possible anticompetitive agreements relating to the distribution of newspapers and magazines;
- securing a final victory in the long-running aluminum antitrust litigation for JP Morgan, securing summary judgment from the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit;
- successfully defending Deutsche Telekom against a UK claim by the administrators of Phones 4U, which alleged several telecom operators conspired to push it out of the market.
Covington’s Antitrust & Competition practice group regularly guides clients through the complex web of antitrust and competition laws to help them secure their most important business objectives by providing regulatory insight, litigation and investigation representation, and transactional support.
