SAN FRANCISCO—The Daily Journal has named Covington partner Michael Plimack to its 2018 list of the “Top Intellectual Property Lawyers” in California.
Mr. Plimack, co-chair of Covington’s Patent Litigation Practice Group, represents leading technology companies that are faced with complex patent infringement cases. In its profile, the Daily Journal highlighted Mr. Plimack’s successful representation of Tessera Technologies in a legal battle against Broadcom at the U.S. International Trade Commission (ITC). After a judge ruled that Broadcom had infringed Tessera’s key patent, the global litigation settled in late 2017 with a new, multi-year patent license agreement between the parties.
The publication also noted Mr. Plimack’s representation of Samsung at the ITC following allegations by Black Hills Media that Samsung and other technology companies infringed more than 80 claims in six mobile device patents. The judge held that Samsung did not infringe any of the asserted claims, and after review, the Commission agreed that no Section 337 violation had been proven and terminated the investigation.
Daily Journal’s “Top Intellectual Property Lawyers” list is featured in the publication’s April 18 special report.
