Law360 Names Covington Among Top 15 Litigation Practices
August 12, 2016
WASHINGTON—Covington ranked 11th in Law360’s inaugural “Litigation Powerhouses” feature, a list of the top 50 litigation firms. Law360 chose firms based on the size of their litigation practice, the nature of firms’ litigation victories over a yearlong period, and new client matters.
In its profile of the firm, Law360 highlights Covington’s three consecutive trial victories on behalf of Eli Lilly in its Cymbalta litigation, as well as the firm’s “unbroken appellate streak for two pharmaceutical industry giants,” Hoffmann-LaRoche and Gilead Sciences.
Stephen Anthony, deputy chair of Covington’s global litigation practice, told Law360, “Our thorough knowledge of the life sciences industry is something that not only our food and drug regulatory lawyers can be proud of—it also helps our litigators handle our clients' most complicated cases in patent, product liability, and other areas.”
Law360 also notes Covington’s litigation victories outside of the life sciences arena, pointing to the firm’s successful representation of CBS, Walt Disney, Time Warner Cable, and other media companies in a challenge to the FCC in the D.C. Circuit, as well as the firm’s contributions to rulings on “matters of national importance,” including the constitutionality of same-sex marriage and the availability of Affordable Care Act subsidies in all 50 states.
Commenting on the “Covington formula,” John Hall, chair of the firm’s litigation practice, said, “Everything in our firm is designed to promote collaboration and cooperation towards achieving the best result for the client. More and more in recent years, that aspect of how we operate has become its own advantage.”
