BEIJING, December 8, 2015 - Tim Stratford, managing partner of Covington’s Beijing office, received the China Pioneer Award from the American Chamber of Commerce in the People’s Republic of China. The AmCham China Pioneer Award honors corporate leaders who made early and significant contributions to economic expansion and the business environment across China.
Mr. Stratford advises international clients on strategy and government affairs issues encountered when doing business in China and assists Chinese companies seeking to expand their businesses globally.
A former Assistant U.S. Trade Representative, Mr. Stratford is the most senior former U.S. trade official working as a member of the U.S. business and legal community in China. Except for the five years he spent in Washington, D.C. in government service (2005-2010), Mr. Stratford has lived and worked continuously in the greater China region since 1982, including as Minister-Counselor for Commercial Affairs at the U.S. Embassy in Beijing and as general counsel for General Motors China Operations. He served as Chairman of AmCham China in 2000 and 2001 and helped lead the American business community’s efforts in support of China’s WTO accession.
