SAN FRANCISCO, CA, September 4, 2008 — Covington & Burling LLP is pleased to welcome two more lawyers to its recently expanded policyholder insurance coverage practice. Michael Greenberg, of counsel, and Esta Brand, special counsel, follow the recent arrival of Covington partners David Goodwin and Lawrence Hobel. All four are resident in the firm’s San Francisco office. Both Mr. Greenberg and Ms. Brand are experienced litigators who have handled a wide range of complex commercial litigation matters. Mr. Greenberg represents policyholders in disputes concerning coverage for a variety of first party and third party claims, including property damage and business interruption, professional liability, multi-site environmental liabilities and asbestos claims that often involved hundreds of insurance policies. He has significant experience handling claims involving the unusual problems encountered in litigation against Lloyds of London and insurance companies doing business in the London insurance market. He also evaluates and counsels clients on ways to improve their overall insurance programs. Ms. Brand represents policyholders in disputes concerning coverage. She has focused on directors and officers, errors and omissions, and mortgage insurance issues, as well as on products and environmental insurance claims. In addition, Ms. Brand has provided counseling to numerous companies in connection with insurance renewals, analysis, and claims handling. “The arrival of Michael and Esta further expands our growing team of litigators in the California office and strengthens the presence of our policyholder practice on the west coast,” said Donald Brown, managing partner of Covington’s San Francisco office and a member of the firm’s policyholder practice. “”We are very pleased and excited that they have joined us.” A graduate of the State University of New York at Binghamton, Mr. Greenberg earned his law degree from Stanford University. Ms. Brand is a graduate of Brandeis University and the University of California’s Boalt Hall School of Law. She clerked for the Honorable William H. Orrick, Jr., of the Federal District Court for the Northern District of California. Covington has long maintained one of the nation’s leading policyholder insurance coverage practices. In 2007, the firm received the Chambers Award for Excellence in Insurance, the first law firm on the insurance company or policyholder side to be so honored. To date, Covington’s insurance practice has helped policyholder clients recover well in excess of $10 billion. These recoveries have involved a wide variety of claims and losses, including mass-tort liabilities, property and business interruption losses, environmental liabilities, directors and officers liability exposures, errors and omissions claims, professional liability and fiduciary claims, employee claims, and a wide variety of other losses and claims.
