WASHINGTON, DC, March 3, 2008 — Covington & Burling LLP partner Peter Zern has been named to Street & Smith’s SportsBusiness Journal’s “Forty Under 40” Class of 2008, described by the publication as the most coveted award in sports business. The annual list, which first appeared in 1999, honors the best and brightest executives in the sports business industry under the age of 40. In its March 3 cover story, the magazine recognizes Mr. Zern, age 34, for playing a key role in financings for the more noteworthy NFL stadiums over the past 10 years, and for representing sports leagues in a variety of media matters, including some of the largest television contracts ever signed. At Covington, Mr. Zern has advised the NFL on numerous matters, including G-3 stadium loans and related financings for the New England Patriots and the Dallas Cowboys, as well as the New York Jets and Giants in their joint facility under construction at the Meadowlands. He has also represented NASCAR in its television and new media distribution rights, Major League Baseball in the highly anticipated launch of the upcoming MLB Channel in 2009, which is expected to deliver a record number of US households on the channel’s first day, and the National Hockey League in the negotiation of equity agreements in respect of the US version of the NHL Network. Mr. Zern and the “Forty Under 40” Class of 2008 will be honored March 14 at an awards banquet being held at the Beverly Wilshire Hotel in Beverly Hills, California.
