Political Gridlock Creates Uncertainty for Companies Sharing Cyber Intel

Lexology quoted Covington lawyer Caleb Skeath in an article examining how repeated short-term lapses and extensions of the Cybersecurity Information Sharing Act (CISA) are undermining companies' confidence in voluntarily disclosing cyber threat information to the federal government.

Caleb noted that companies' responses to the funding lapses have varied — with some pulling back on sharing and others continuing to disclose as before — but that the overall effect has been corrosive.

"I think approaches to [the lapses] vary but I think the lack of reauthorization and the short reauthorizations contributed to a general consensus of uncertainty," he told Lexology. He also flagged downstream consequences, explaining that fewer voluntary disclosures from the private sector could limit the government's ability to aggregate and share threat intelligence back to companies, weakening cyber defenses on both sides.
