Yan notes that the Chinese government has not yet prioritized enacting comprehensive AI legislation, despite its acknowledgement of the government’s role in AI leadership. “China has been talking about having a comprehensive AI law for a while, but from last year and this year’s legislative plan, the government basically said we will not have an AI law this year, we are studying how AI impacts society,” she said.
