Colorado Sets Guardrails for High-Risk AI

Matt Shapanka’s commentary was included in a Lexology PRO article discussing the effects of the Colorado Artificial Intelligence Act, a bill that would set documentation and notification requirements for developers and deployers of high-risk artificial intelligence (AI) systems. Matt comments on the general trends of AI regulatory efforts for the article.

“I think we are seeing, if not a trend, a preference for a risk-based regime to allow innovation and change to a technology [and for] a regime that’s intended to govern a technology that is rapidly changing,” Matt said. He added that “a risk-based approach gives government some flexibility to protect their constituents while also encouraging innovation in their state and broadly around the country.”
