FCC Immediately Bans Junk Robocalls Using AI-Cloned Voices

Yaron clarifies the FCC’s decision, saying it does not amount to a blanket ban on AI-generated robocalls. "What the FCC did was declare that AI-generated voices are 'artificial' voices within the meaning of the [TCPA]; therefore, they are subject to prior express consent requirements before they can be transmitted. What this means is that AI-generated voice calls are not now 'illegal.' Rather, they simply require consent, which arguably has been the case all along,” Yaron said. “All the FCC did today was memorialize that point in a declaratory ruling.”
