Allianz Beats South Carolina Restaurants Covid Insurance Bid

Bloomberg Law included Rani Gupta's commentary in an article about the South Carolina top court's ruling holding that Covid-19 virus particles and government lockdown orders do not cause damage covered by property insurance companies. The ruling answered a longstanding question that has been litigated across many courts about whether physical damages and business interruption losses from the coronavirus and related government orders are covered under property insurance.

According to Rani, the insurance policy and “decades of case law” don’t require a policyholder to show structural alteration to allege property damage.
