Conviction of Theranos founder Elizabeth Holmes splits Silicon Valley

Amanda Kramer spoke with Financial Times regarding the controversy surrounding the significance of the recent verdict finding Elizabeth Holmes guilty of defrauding investors of Theranos, a blood testing startup.

Amanda said the Holmes verdict tells start-up founders they should be careful to not "cross the line from enthusiastic optimism into fraudulent misrepresentation." She added, "it's not that hard of a line to see and to stay on the right side of." She expanded to highlight how the norms of start-up culture "make it difficult to be conservative on this issue" without appearing to be "not certain enough about your venture."
