Product Liability Group Of The Year: Covington & Burling

January 17, 2017, Law360

Law360 selected Covington’s Product Liability practice as a “Practice Group of the Year,” profiling the team’s defense of Takata in litigation over potentially explosive airbags and Bayer Healthcare in multidistrict litigation (MDL) over Mirena IUDs, among other matters. According to Paul Schmidt, the firm’s range of work showcases its diversity of resources.

Pointing to the group’s successful representation of Takata, Schmidt says, “To be able to do that kind of work, you have to have top practices in every area.” Michael Imbroscio adds, “Coordinating all of that has been an unbelievable challenge to keep it all going.”

Commenting on Covington’s success in shutting down MDL over Bayer’s Mirena, Phyllis Jones says, “It’s a pretty unusual thing when a judge makes a determination that the science is such that nothing in the MDL can be supported.”
