Insider threats to cybersecurity — An HR legal perspective

"Cybersecurity threats can emanate not just from outside sources but from company insiders as well — including employees, executives, directors and contractors. According to NetDiligence’s 2014 Cyber Insurance Claims Study, roughly one-third of the reported events were attributable to insiders. Just over half of insider events were unintentional — caused predominantly by employee mistakes — and just under half were purposeful and originated from malicious inside actors. When looking at the matter on a global scale, according to PWC’s most recent Global Crime Report, more than half of all people seeking to defraud a company are thought to be insiders, with so-called “procurement fraud” on the rise."
