Associate Marianna Jackson wins Pro Bono Case in U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit

Covington associate, Marianna Jackson, drafted the briefs and presented the oral argument in the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fourth Court, successfully overturning a conviction for her pro bono client who had been charged as a “felon in possession of a firearm,” a violation of 18 U.S.C. 922(g). By demonstrating that her client’s prior offense should not have resulted in a felony conviction, she was able to prove that he was innocent of being a “felon in possession of a firearm.” The court directed that judgment be entered for her client without a remand. Marianna was supervised by Covington's Appellate and Supreme Court Litigation Group Chair, Robert Long, was provided invaluable advice from former Attorney General and Litigation partner Eric Holder, and received assistance from Kevin King for the moot court.
