Congressional Investigations in the 117th Congress

Date: Wednesday, December 9, 2020 12:00 PM - 1:00 PM

With the results of the 2020 elections now largely clear, leaving only control of the Senate in doubt, Congress appears headed into another year filled with congressional investigations. Additionally, the presidential election results mean that Congress will have a greater incentive to target these investigations on corporations and their executives.

Congressional investigations are a unique legal process that blends legal, political, public relations, and reputational risks. They often consume the attention of a company’s most senior executives and can lead to a cycle of intense media attention, share price pressure, civil litigation, or legal and regulatory scrutiny.

Please join Covington’s Congressional Investigations team on Wednesday, December 9 at 12 PM ET, as they draw upon their decades of experience representing companies and individuals in congressional investigations and oversight hearings. The team will address the following topic and more:

  • The political landscape for congressional investigations in the new Congress.
  • The mechanics of congressional investigations and the actions corporations can take now to prepare for potential scrutiny.
  • Congress’s discovery tools, including recent developments regarding the enforcement of congressional subpoenas.
  • Strategies for mitigating collateral damage from congressional investigations in parallel civil, criminal, or regulatory proceedings, and in other legislative matters before Congress.

Log-in details provided upon registration.

Event Closed to the Press.
