Zhiyang (Z.Y.) Zhang

Z.Y. Zhang is a senior advisor in Covington’s Beijing office. Having worked as an official within the Chinese central government and an executive member of Greater China leadership teams at multinational companies, he has extensive experience helping multinational companies understand the legislative intent and policy insight, take government advocacy initiatives to manage risk control and crisis, and develop strategies and programs/projects for engaging with key government stakeholders for business sustainability and growth in China. He regularly assists companies facing acute or long-term issues to resolve them, often through direct discussions and interactions with relevant government decision makers.

Z.Y. previously was the External Affairs Vice President for Greater China of Mead Johnson Nutrition, where he built up a strong government/public affairs team and developed relations with key government stakeholders at both central and local levels. Prior to joining Mead Johnson, he worked at Dow Chemical Company for 10 years as the Managing Counsel - Asia Pacific/Greater China. He was a member of the Dow Chemical (Greater China and Asia Pacific) leadership overseeing compliance matters, government affairs, community contribution programs and crisis management.
