    Jeannie Perron is a member of the firm’s Food and Drug Practice Group, resident in the Washington, DC Office.

    In addition to being an attorney, Jeannie also holds a degree in veterinary medicine and has practiced as a veterinarian.  She specializes in food and drug law, with a sub-specialty in animal food and drug law.  In this capacity, she represents companies that manufacture feed, feed ingredients, drugs, biologics and medical devices for animals, as well as clients in related industries.

    Her specialties also include advising clients and providing representation on matters before the United States Department of Agriculture arising under the Animal Welfare Act.  Her clients are animal research companies, pharmaceutical companies, and animal dealers and exhibitors.

    Another specialized area of practice relates to the importation of animal-derived ingredients and products.  Jeannie advises clients on USDA regulations and procedures in this area and assists clients in securing the required permits and certifications.

    In addition to these other practice areas, Jeannie also advises clients in the regulation of dietary supplements, over-the-counter drugs, cosmetics for humans, and import and export of products regulated by the United States Food and Drug Administration as well as those having animal or microbially-derived ingredients regulated by USDA.

    • Successfully represented a coalition of companies in opposing release by a federal agency of certain sensitive information reflected in documents required to be filed with that agency.
    • Assisted a manufacturer of pharmaceuticals, medical devices, and dietary supplements to resolve an import prohibition placed by FDA on a major product.
    • Assisted a client design, plan, and establish a significant new animal health business.
    • Defended and successfully settled a major administrative compliance action brought by the United States Department of Agriculture under the Animal Welfare Act.
    • Advised various clients on responding to inspections and investigations conducted under the Animal Welfare Act by the Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service.
    • Assisted a client successfully design and execute an Investigational New Animal Drug Application and clinical trial thereunder for an innovative product.
    • Defended a client on an investigation before a state Attorney General regarding statements appearing on websites.
    • Assisted clients in obtaining self-affirmed GRAS status for their products.
    • Defended clients in actions before the National Advertising Division of the Better Business Bureau.
    • Assisted clients in negotiating their animal feed label claims before FDA.
    • Successfully petitioned for removal of clients and clients’ suppliers from FDA Import Alerts.
    • Assisted a number of clients obtain releases for imported products held by FDA.
    • Advised on USDA permits and export certifications needed for importation or exportation of products containing USDA-regulated ingredients.
