Robert Gianchetti is special counsel in the firm’s New York office. Robert specializes in complex commercial litigation. He represents sports, media, and entertainment clients as a member of Covington’s nationally leading Sports practice. His practice also includes complex business litigation, transactional disputes, securities and shareholder derivative litigation, and other corporate governance matters, including in federal and state court and the Delaware Court of Chancery. In 2025, Robert was named a Sports & Betting Rising Star by Law360 and selected to Law360’s Sports & Betting Editorial Advisory Board.
In addition to Robert’s commercial litigation practice, Robert maintains a robust advisory practice, advising sports, media, and entertainment clients on litigation risk in connection with various business transactions and disputes, including related to media rights agreements, collective bargaining agreements, licensing agreements, and cybersecurity issues. Robert has worked with clients across a wide range of industries, including sports, media and entertainment, technology, financial services, and life sciences. Robert also maintains an active pro bono practice, including serving as first-chair trial counsel in a civil rights trial in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York on behalf of an indigent prisoner.
Robert has substantial experience across all stages of litigation, including drafting motions, managing complex discovery, taking and defending depositions, arguing motions in court, examining witnesses and delivering opening statements at trial, and briefing appeals.
From 2016-2017, he served as a law clerk to the Hon. Colleen McMahon on the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York.
