    Allen is an experienced associate in intellectual property litigation. He has guided clients in both offensive and defensive IP strategies across technical fields including semiconductor fabrication, LEDs, and medical devices. Allen has successfully litigated in federal district courts, the Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit, the Patent Trial and Appeal Board, and the International Trade Commission.

    Previously, Allen was a patent examiner at the USPTO in the computer architecture art unit. Holding a B.E. in Electrical and Computer Engineering and M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in Electrical Engineering, his expertise includes optoelectronics, semiconductor technologies, and wireless communications.

    • Palo Alto Networks, Inc. v. Packet Intelligence LLC. (PTAB): Represented Palo Alto Networks in challenging patents in ongoing PTAB IPR trials relating to packet classification, switching and monitoring.
    • Ultravision Technologies, LLC v. Samsung Electronics (E.D. Tex., PTAB): Defended Samsung Electronics in a patent infringement action involving six patents related to LED displays.
    • Emerson Electric v. SIPCO et al.(N.D. Ga., ITC, PTAB, CAFC): Represented Emerson Electric in a 10-patent lawsuit, multiple inter partes review proceedings, and Federal Circuit appeals relating to mesh network technology.
    • Veeco Instruments Inc. v. SGL Carbon, LLC et al.,(E.D.N.Y. / Fed. Cir.): Represented Veeco in a two-patent infringement case related to removable wafer carriers used in the production of LEDs in Metal-Organic Chemical Vapor Deposition (MOCVD) systems. Member of a team that successfully obtained a preliminary injunction prohibiting SGL from supplying infringing wafer carriers to Veeco’s chief MOCVD competitor, after which the case settled while on appeal.
    • Represented VIZIO, Inc in three inter partes review proceedings challenging patents relating to LED technology at the PTAB.
    • Imperium IP Holdings (Cayman), Ltd. v. Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd. (E.D. Tex., PTAB, Fed. Cir.): Defended client as a technical advisor for one of three asserted patents during jury trial resulting in a jury finding the patent invalid, and in inter partes review proceeding related to same patent resulting in a finding of invalidity for all challenged claims.
    • In the Matter of Certain Non-Volatile Memory Devices and Products Containing Same (No. 337-TA-922): Represented Spansion LLC in an International Trade Commission Investigation against Macronix involving patents related to semiconductor memory devices.
    • In the Matter of Certain Television Sets, Television Receivers, Television Tuners, and Components Thereof (No. 337-TA-910): Represented a major multinational electronics company in an International Trade Commission Investigation relating to two patents directed to television tuners. Member of a team that successfully obtained summary determination of non-infringement for a design-around product.
