    Jon Blake joined Covington in 1964 and practiced continuously with the firm until his retirement in 2013, remaining an important presence and handling high-impact pro bono initiatives over the decade that followed. Jon was a revered leader at the firm, having served as a member of the Management Committee and as Chairman for a number of years. He headed the firm's Communications and Media practice, with his expertise evolving along with the communications industry to encompass intellectual property, privacy, and various technology fields. A trailblazer in his field, Jon served as president of the Federal Communications Bar Association and led many industry coalitions and working groups. For his efforts aiding the broadcast industry's transition to digital high definition television, Jon received an Emmy Award in 2011. Jon was a friend, mentor, and inspiration to countless clients, firm lawyers and staff. He was a person of outsized ability and unaffected humility, a rare combination of qualities for which he will long be remembered and missed.
