WASHINGTON—The Amica Center for Immigrant Rights honored Covington with the Defender of Due Process award at its annual fall fundraiser. The award recognizes the firm’s exceptional commitment to protecting due process and standing alongside immigrant children and adults facing detention and deportation.
The firm was recognized for its leadership in Escobar Molina v. DHS, a landmark challenge to federal authorities’ unlawful practice of conducting warrantless immigration arrests without probable cause in Washington, D.C. The team secured a court order requiring defendants to stop making these arrests.
For nearly 30 years, Amica Center has worked to build a country that affords everyone due process, protects people seeking safety, and keeps communities together.
Covington has demonstrated a strong commitment to public service. The firm is frequently recognized for pro bono service, including being ranked 12 times as the number one pro bono practice in the U.S. by The American Lawyer. Much of the firm’s pro bono work is anchored in meeting local needs, serving economically disadvantaged individuals and families in our surrounding communities, in addition to its long history of serving vulnerable clients and important causes throughout the U.S. and the world.
