WASHINGTON—The Cyrus R. Vance Center for International Justice recognized Covington at its annual Michael Cooper Celebration of International Pro Bono Excellence. The firm was honored by the Vance Center’s Public Interest Reporting Program for its work supporting nonprofit news organizations.
This work is part of Covington’s Kurt Wimmer Media Freedom Pro Bono Initiative, established in tribute to Covington’s late partner Kurt Wimmer, an international leader in media law. Through the Wimmer Initiative, the firm undertakes a broad range of pro bono matters to protect and advance media freedom and assist nonprofit newsrooms.
The Vance Center provides pro bono legal representation to civil society organizations worldwide, engaging hundreds of law firms and lawyers across borders to expand access to justice and support an ethically active legal profession.
Covington has demonstrated a strong commitment to public service. The firm is frequently recognized for pro bono service, including 12 times being ranked the number one pro bono practice in the U.S. by The American Lawyer. Much of the firm's pro bono work is anchored in meeting local needs, serving economically disadvantaged individuals and families in our surrounding communities, in addition to its long history of serving vulnerable clients and important causes throughout the U.S. and the world.
