December 12, 2022
WASHINGTON—Valerie Hletko has joined Covington as a partner in the firm’s Financial Services Practice in Washington.
“Valerie represents a wide variety of financial services industry participants, and her experience in administrative enforcement actions, investigations, and complex civil litigation will provide even further depth to our practice,” said Mike Nonaka, co-chair of Covington’s Financial Services Practice. “She is one of very few private practitioners who have significant experience litigating against federal government agencies on behalf of financial services providers, and she will greatly enhance our agency litigation profile.”
Valerie’s practice has an emphasis on financial services enforcement matters based on consumer financial services and prudential regulatory requirements. She counsels banks, credit bureaus, non-bank financial institutions, fintech companies, and technology companies as they navigate an increasingly complex and interrelated set of state, federal, and global legal and regulatory challenges.
Valerie represents a variety of financial services industry participants in complex civil litigation, arbitration, as well as in investigations and administrative enforcement actions initiated by the U.S. Department of Justice, FDIC, Federal Reserve Board, Office of the Comptroller of the Currency, CFPB, HUD, and state bank regulatory agencies and state Attorneys General. She has assisted clients with pre-enforcement matters relating to a broad array of financial products and services, including responding to Proposed Action and Request for Response letters, Notice and Opportunity to Respond and Advise letters, 15-day letters, and managing issues relating to self-disclosure. Valerie also counsels clients in connection with regulatory examinations and governance, risk management, and safety and soundness matters
“Having worked as co-counsel with Covington lawyers, I have always appreciated their collaborative approach to practicing law and commitment to the highest standards in client service,” said Valerie. “I look forward to working with colleagues across the financial services, white collar, corporate, and public policy practices to expand my existing client relationships and develop new opportunities.”
Valerie received a B.A. from Kenyon College, a M.T.S. from Harvard University, and a J.D. from The University of Chicago Law School.
