Covington Ranked Top Five in American Lawyer's Pro Bono Rankings

July 2, 2019

WASHINGTONCovington was ranked second among Am Law 200 firms in The American Lawyer’s annual Pro Bono Survey and first in average pro bono hours performed by lawyers based in the United States in 2018.

The American Lawyer ranks firms by a pro bono score that considers the average number of pro bono hours per lawyer and the percentage of lawyers who performed more than 20 hours of pro bono work.

"Throughout the United States, there is a large 'justice gap,' with many more clients who cannot afford counsel than there are lawyers to help them. Law firms can help close this gap, particularly in cases that require substantial expertise and resources," said Alan Pemberton, chair of Covington's pro bono committee. “It is a privilege to work in a firm that understands and supports our responsibility to our communities and our country."

Since its founding in 1919, Covington has maintained a strong commitment to public service. The firm encourages all of its lawyers to participate in pro bono work, and devotes significant resources to finding pro bono projects that reflect the diverse interests of its lawyers.
