April 25, 2019

WASHINGTONDaniel Feldman has joined Covington’s Global Problem Solving group in Washington. A former Special Representative for Afghanistan and Pakistan at the U.S. Department of State, Ambassador Feldman was a principal advisor to Secretaries of State John Kerry and Hillary Rodham Clinton regarding Afghanistan, Pakistan, and broader South, Central, and East Asian issues.

Ambassador Feldman counsels multinational corporations on mitigating risk and maximizing opportunities in the development and implementation of their strategies for international investments and operations. His practice includes advising on global political risks, corporate social responsibility and sustainability matters, and compliance with U.S. law and international best practices on global policy concerns, including sanctions and anti-corruption efforts.

“Dan has had a distinguished career in government serving as a top advisor in multiple administrations and navigating the terrain of the world’s most complex political hotspots,” said Al Larson, co-chair of Global Problem Solving by Covington. “His background and experience complements our team of lawyers, former diplomats, senior government officials, and investigators engaged in helping our clients solve complex problems involving both legal and government institutions around the world.”

In addition to his time at the State Department, Ambassador Feldman also served as Director of Multilateral and Humanitarian Affairs at the National Security Council in the Clinton Administration and as counsel and communications adviser to the U.S. Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee. He was also a senior foreign policy and national security advisor to the Hillary Clinton, Obama, Kerry, and Gore presidential campaigns, as well as a senior campaign advisor to Sen. Mark Warner.

“The Covington team’s deep bench of former top diplomats, its Global Problem Solving practice, and culture of collaboration and teamwork attracted me to the firm,” said Ambassador Feldman. “I’m excited to be a part of a team with experience in all corners of the world working towards the common goal of finding practical solutions to complex issues.”

Ambassador Feldman earned his J.D. from Columbia Law School, his M.P.A. from Princeton University, and his B.A. from Tufts University.
