Laura Torre Receives John K. Geiger Award from Her Justice

February 28, 2019

NEW YORKHer Justice, a non-profit organization that provides free legal help to women living in poverty in New York City, has presented Laura Torre with the John K. Geiger Award.

The award is presented in memory of John Geiger, a volunteer turned lawyer at Her Justice. Mr. Geiger demonstrated unyielding compassion and dedication towards his clients and brought enthusiasm for this work to everyone he encountered.

Ms. Torre was honored for her work on several Her Justice pro bono matters in which she has assisted domestic violence survivors in filing VAWA and U-visa immigration petitions. These petitions seek to legalize the immigration status of such pro bono clients in the United States. In her four years volunteering at Her Justice, Ms. Torre has taken on seven immigration cases for women and children who have experienced domestic violence.

Her Justice stands with women living in poverty in New York City by recruiting and mentoring volunteer lawyers to provide free legal help to address individual and systemic legal barriers. The non-profit provides legal services in family, divorce, and immigration law.
