Covington Receives Pickering Award from Pro Bono Institute

WASHINGTON—The Pro Bono Institute has presented Covington with the 2018 John H. Pickering Award, recognizing the firm’s outstanding institutional commitment to pro bono and the extraordinary pro bono efforts of its lawyers and staff. 

In 2017, Covington lawyers devoted more than 146,000 hours to representing organizations and individuals in pro bono matters. Much of Covington’s pro bono work serves economically disadvantaged individuals and families in the firm’s surrounding communities. The firm also handles impact litigation and systemic reform projects on a range of issues including immigration, LGBTQ equality, the First Amendment, gun violence prevention, criminal justice, mental health, voting rights, and veterans’ benefits.

The Pro Bono Institute provides research, consultative services, analysis and assessment, publications, and training to a broad range of legal audiences. The organization supports pro bono efforts of major law firms, in-house corporate legal departments, and public interest organizations in the U.S. and around the world.
