Robert Kayihura Joins Covington’s Johannesburg Office as Senior Advisor

JOHANNESBURG Robert Kayihura has joined Covington as a senior advisor in Johannesburg.

Mr. Kayihura has nearly two decades of experience advising clients across the African continent. Drawing on his experience as an entrepreneur and advisor to large, global corporations including Microsoft and Uber, he works closely with corporate decision-makers, federal governments, and regional policymaking bodies on market entry strategies as well as legal, compliance, policy, and regulatory issues.

“Bob brings incredible experience in and knowledge of the African continent and will become an important resource for our clients at a time when Africa’s economic and social development continues to ascend in importance,” said Witney Schneidman, chair of Covington’s Africa Practice Group and the former Deputy Assistant U.S. Secretary of State for African Affairs. “He will significantly increase the firm’s depth and capabilities in the region and will be able to engage with clients around the world pursuing commercial objectives in Africa.”

Throughout his career, Mr. Kayhura has counseled on varied political, economic, social, and regulatory issues including technology licensing and transactions, data protection, leasing and finance, strategic partnerships, dispute resolution, risk mitigation, and corporate social responsibility.

Mr. Kayihura earned his J.D. from the University of Washington School of Law and an undergraduate degree from Brigham Young University.
